Deadlock skins

Deadlock has no official skins right now: no store, no battle pass, no paid cosmetics. Everything you see in videos and streams is a player-made mod. Valve says hero cosmetics are coming but hasn't given a date.

Checked against the game update of October 20, 2026.

What we know about official cosmetics

  • So far free cosmetics have only come from events and challenges, such as the winter event and Halloween.
  • In the City Never Sleeps update blog Valve said it is working on progression plus hero and hideout customisation (PC Gamer).
  • The leaked wardrobe concept is a rumour; Valve hasn't confirmed it.

Custom skins

A custom skin is a mod: a .vpk file that swaps a hero's model or textures on your PC only. Teammates and enemies see the default hero. Skins on GameBanana are sorted by hero.

Check when a skin was last updated before installing it: big patches often break older skins.

Skins we'd skip

  • Bright, glowing or see-through models: they make a hero easier or harder to spot, which is an advantage and a risk to your account.
  • Shrunk models and redesigns that change the silhouette so much the hero is hard to recognise.
  • Adult content: we don't publish or link to it.

How to install a skin

The same way as any mod: with Deadlock Mod Manager or by hand through the addons folder. The step-by-step guide, with tips on spotting fakes, is at Deadlock mods.

With several skins on one hero, the lower file number wins: pak01_dir.vpk beats pak02_dir.vpk. To get the default look back, delete the file from addons or switch the mod off in the manager.

Hero roles and abilities are under Deadlock heroes, who is in form is in the Deadlock tier list, and Valve's hero changes are in Deadlock patches.

FAQ

Does Deadlock have skins?
There are no paid or tradable skins. Valve says hero cosmetics are in the works but gives no date. Everything else is mods.
Can other players see my skin?
No. A mod changes files on your PC only; everyone else sees the default hero.
Can you get banned for skins?
Valve hasn't published rules on mods, so there is no guarantee. Skins that give an advantage (bright, see-through or shrunk) carry more risk.
How do I get the default skin back?
Delete the mod file from game/citadel/addons or switch it off in Deadlock Mod Manager. To turn all mods off at once, verify the game files in Steam.
